Fourth HP Chilli Surfboard

The concept of the Hp Chilli comes from summer banks at home when you just want to surf with lots of energy. The team often asked for fun boards to get expressive on and refining our best selling Chilli Bean to be more performance oriented just made sense. Instant speed and lots of lift being the foundations on which the Chilli series was built on, then adding some drive on rail and more hold in the pocket. You end up with a skatey daily driver perfect for your every day UK waves when you want to go really fast and do lots of spinners!

The outline of the Hp Chilli offers you a wider tail base and a more parallel mid section than the Chilli Bean shape. This parrael rail then pulls into a wide by shortboard standards and average by groveller standards nose. This Bullet like shape gives you lots of down the line acceleration and added stability whilst on the tail.

The rocker is ever so slightly raised in entry and exit which allows for tighter turns and a more pocket friendly feel compared to the Chilli Bean. The mid section remains pretty flat to ensure down the line trajectory is always present.

The foil is foam friendly throughout to ensure a stable platform even at shorter rail lengths, essentially meaning you can go shorter than you normally would. This is classic Chilli Bean D.N.A and something I wanted to maintain in this more performance based endeavour.

The rails are very forgiving in this board with the hard edge from the tail pivoting to much softer up top. They feel lovely and soft to the touch, and help to keep the board feeling fluid and loose at all times.

The bottom contours on the Hp Chilli are where the magic really lies. the entry is a soft vee that accentuates the rail rocker as much as possible without pushing water. This then graduates into a subtle single that maintains right through to the back of the board. From the mid part of the board down to the fin area I have applied Fourths trademark double spirals to add lift whilst accentuating the flatness in between your stance. This keeps the board really fast and responsive as well as helping with rail to rail transitions without losing momentum in less than perfect waves.

For fins this board offers great options as a quad in the sloppy stuff or as a thruster in better shaped waves. The FCS reactors will go a treat in the Hp Chilli.

When it comes to construction we would tend to recommend going for the Flex Tech for more pop in the small stuff or the Base construction if you are looking for a more fluid feel.

The Hp Chilli is our answer to electric, high energy wave riding in the UK. If you want to add some flare to your surfing in average waves without going down the conventional shortboard route then the Hp Chilli should be your next surfboard.

Technology

Base Construction

Base Construction(a polyurethane blank with polyester resin) is still considered the most versatile and all-round performance specific construction used the world over by touring surf professionals. At Fourth Surfboards only premium materials are used to produce top-quality boards; US Blanks at the core in blue foam and Hexcel Glass for the laminate bonded with Silmar resin for best balance between weight, performance and durability.

The Fourth construction method sees the board finished in 24/7 heat controlled environments to ensure curing times are at optimum levels to reach a finish unrivalled in Europe. The board is then sanded to a 240 dry sand finish ensuring that there is zero plastic lacquer on the board that can often look and feel horrible after a couple of months in the ocean.
