7’2″ FM Love Machine Surfboard

£945.00

The 7’2 FM is a uniquely FM model within the FM range, in that it does not follow the 7’0, or proceed the 7’4, but is instead its own board, and all the better for it. It is slightly longer, narrower, and a little thicker than its bretheren. The result is a deamon paddler, that trims with ease, is stable at speed, and does not bog when slow. Its one of, if not the most versatile model within the FM range, able to handle pretty much what ever waves you throw at it, and a firm team favourite. With the mahority of its outline shape in the back third of the board it does its best surfing when your feet are firmly placed further back, over the tail/fins. This positional bias means that its not as forgiving as some of ther other FM models, but when your feet are in the right place the 7’2 is hard to beat!

This particualr board is made in our favourite FM construction, with 6oz on teh bottom, and 6oz on teh deck with an Innegra inlay. All of this is then wrapped in our bio epoxy resin to make one of the smoother, toughest, surfing PU boards out there. The construction costs a little more than normal, but the added durability and super smooth surfing more than make up for it. So much so that some of our team members only surf this construction.

Notes from Ryan: “The FM isn’t a ‘channel bottom’ in the classical sense – the channel is there as a break for water flow, but it isn’t doing for the board what most designers are chasing in the deeper more exaggerated channel bottoms that are so popular right now. This design sports a pretty hefty spiral vee in the back half of the board, and while that is amazing for rail transitions and feel, it creates suction between the board and wave; the channel breaks that water flow that is sucking onto the board, so you get the three-dimensional value of the spiral vee and its rolling sensation, but without the stickiness. You’ll notice the 7’2 has a straight channel as opposed to the curved one that most have become accustomed to in seeing the FM; the first 15 or so boards all had a straight channel like this, and as Pat’s was in that batch, so I’m running with it for this model as we’re making dead on 1 for 1 copies.”
