Description

5’10 Fourth Weekend Rockstar –  Zag Tint – Fish Surfboard

Starting with the outline, the weekend rockstar fish surfboard has the look of a fish. A wider nose and pulled in swallow tail, but when you really dissect the Weekend Rockstar’s outline you start to see the secrets. The parallel rails give this fish heaps of forward trajectory and the bullet like tail curves offer great pivot when needed through turns. We have now accentuated the pivot in the tail with a mini hip just in front of the back fin. Fishy aggression in spades is now the order when you are on this thing.

FISHY

The nose, although wide, has a fast curve for the overall length of the board to make sure there are no issues with bogging rails and bigger turns in weaker waves. The rocker is medium throughout with a slight kick in the tail to keep it lively, and the foil is that of a high performance all-rounder – which in this case was based on the shank. The deck line has been flattened and a slight chine in the rail means we can utilise that volume in paddle and stability whilst keeping that progressive shortboard rail. Any more volume packed into this beauty and it would burst. The key is having all the volume you need, but not so much it becomes novel.

FUN

The single concave offers lift and control and the rail shape is that of a performance short board. All in all you have an incredibly fast board that burns through weaker waves and utilises any sections you get with performance lines. It’s easy to catch waves on, it works in anything from knee high to overhead waves and makes general everyday surfing easy.

FEELING!

We have set the fins up as a clustered thruster which means you can use a twin plus trailer  Its all about the FCS2 POWER TWIN SET for loads of fishy fun. Or be boring and go for a standard thruster set up in lumpier waves for added control. The FCS2 performer set would be a great start.

Technology

Base Construction

Base Construction (a polyurethane blank with polyester resin) is still considered the most versatile and all-round performance specific construction used the world over by touring surf professionals. At Fourth Surfboards only premium materials are used to produce top-quality boards; US Blanks at the core in blue foam and Hexcel Glass for the laminate bonded with Silmar resin for best balance between weight, performance and durability.

The Fourth construction method sees the board finished in 24/7 heat controlled environments to ensure curing times are at optimum levels to reach a finish unrivalled in Europe. The board is then sanded to a 240 dry sand finish ensuring that there is zero plastic lacquer on the board that can often look and feel horrible after a couple of months in the ocean.

Epoxy Construction

When the board is laminated it happens in a heat controlled environment using ‘resin research’ epoxy resin.

‘Resin research’ epoxy is ground breaking stuff, not only is it over 40% bio content it is also the strongest, lightest and brightest epoxy on the market. It isn’t just safer to use and better for the environment, it is also the best performing resin we could get our hands on. Given the characteristics of the foam and the resin, this surfboard as a product uses less resin per foot than standard construction surfboards, meaning the weight is further reduced. It all plays a part in why this construction method is so special.

FX1 Construction

FX1 Construction is lightweight, strong, dent proof, and has a natural flex pattern to ensure performance in a wide range of conditions. When you have a board that has very strong impact resistance, usually it will have stiff flex patterns that feel chattery on the face of a wave and be hard to control, especially at higher speeds. The FX1 construction method rivals the compression strength of sandwich construction epoxy alternatives but adds a better natural flex pattern to allow for ease of use in a wider range of conditions.
