Description
The concept of the model comes from the lineage of Harty’s journey with mid lengths both as a shaper and surfer. Forever trying to find the perfect balance of paddle power, duck-dive – ability , performance and forgiveness, he wanted a board to work in everything, a board to help him be a better surfer. Not too much to ask for, right!? The result, is the bp round. It maintains rail length, has bags of forgiveness, is a supremo paddler, and turns tighter than any other board in Fourths BP range.
The outline is classic Bp family, just with a more drawn out front as well as more pivot in the back. It just works for so many reasons and the proof really is in the surfing. Narrowing the overall template and adding the round pin tail offers quicker rail to rail transitions and more sensitivity at higher speeds, qualities that make it Harty’s go-to board when fancies turning up the styling, especially in bigger waves.
The rocker is taken from the bp pro so there is plenty there to keep you agile on rail. Likewise, the BP D.N.A. ensures that off the tail readiness whilst down the line the ride driving remains smooth and effortless. We consider it the best performance mid length rocker on the market.
The shortboard foil remains a strong feature on the bp round model. Adding a touch more foam up front just to accommodate the extra lift generated through the higher single concaves. This a tweak we have seen applied to many of the performance models coming from Fourth late 2024 and on into 2025.
The rails are slightly more domed in order to facilitate the sensitivity this board has been developed around. The rails want to be in the face, and out of all the BP models, this is definitely the most responsive on rail, thus maximising performance style surfing.
The bottom contours are the best bit and what really makes this a stand alone classic. Single throughout with a slightly flatter section right at the front, with a classic BP double concave through the fins and slight vee out the tail. The result is speed on tap, whilst maintain smooth and fast rail to rail action. Harty is always going on about a hard to describe buttery feeling when surfing this board, but put simply, it feels like a beast.
As for fins you cant go wrong with the FCS h4’s in a thruster set up for this board. You can’t beat the lack of drag, control and release they lend to longer rail line boards.
We can offer the bp round in all of our constructions, it truly is an all rounder. Harty is currently surfing his in standard base construction, which is always going to feel great, but epoxies will also work, breaking there trademark responsiveness and pop.
We are definitely entering the the age of the mini mid, a generation of boards shaped for confidence and performance in any condition. High wave count, ease of performance, and a desire to improve are all qualities this board inspires. Needless to say Harty is in love with his, something that is clear in the video we posted of him breaking down the model on our YouTube channel. As always the question is what comes next, but for now we are just going to enjoy surfing what, in his own words, Harty is describing as one of his best models ever.
