Description
Fourth Rockstar Surfboard
The concept for the Rockstar was to add a board to the shank family specifically designed for high performance surfing in average conditions. We made it a little wider, a little shorter and a little flatter than the o.g shank. Whilst keeping with the D.N.A which makes the shank such a well rounded shortboard.
The outline is essentially a shortened shank template. With thos familiar tear-dropped graceful curves, but accentuated to offer a wider tail and longer rail line. There is also a little more width in the nose so extending the outline a little further, and delivering longer rail lengths in a shorter overall template.
The rocker is continuous and beautifully flowing from nose to tail. Maximising the sweet spot is key in the rockstar set ups, which means creating speed and setting up for bottom and top turns is just a natural experience. Low to medium entry and exit rockers offer the pivot, speed and fluidity you want in this type of board.
The foil is consistent with our shank model – a shortboard at its core, with a little extra foam in the back half of the board for added stability and forgiveness.
The rails are forgiving and soft, with a slightly higher hard edge in the tail just to keep that release going in slower paced waves.
The bottom shape maintains a single from nose to tail with a very subtle spined double concave between the fins. The aim of the game is lift and hold whilst combating that curve through the rail lines. It’s a sneaky good way to maintain control on rail in sub par conditions whilst you maintining your speed and acceleration. I love this bottom shape for all UK shortboards. It’s a cheat code.
When it comes to fins, thruster set up all the way on this board with the slightly raised back fin helping to keep it loose. I recommend riding a sized up fin template in this model. The mf carbons in large seem to work a treat.
Construction options really do come down to personal preference. Most of the team surf the Rockstar in ese flex tech, whereas some of the lighter guys, or surfers making it their all rounder, tend to opt for the base construction.
For most, the Rockstar is the UK all rounder we’ve always looked for. Forgiving, easy, fast and still plenty of hold on rail. If you are looking to maximise your output in everyday waves then you don’t need to look any further.
